Fractured by Teri Terry Review and My GIVEAWAY!

Fractured (Slated, #2)

How do you know where to go when you don't remember where you came from?
Kyla's memory has been erased, her personality wiped blank, her memories lost for ever.

Or so she thought.
Kyla shouldn't be able to remember anything. But she can - and she's beginning to realise that there are a lot of dark secrets locked away in her memories. When a mysterious man from her past comes back into her life, she thinks she's on her way to finding the truth. But the more she learns about her history, the more confusing her future becomes...

Set in a disturbing future world, FRACTURED is an engrossing, fast-paced read that establishes Teri Terry as a master thriller writer.

My Review
So as many of you may know, if you've read any of my earlier posts you will have seen that I received an Advanced Copy of Fractured by Teri Terry a few weeks ago!
Unfortunately, school and exams and concerts (because I am a musician) made my reading life a littttlleee crazy, however a couple of days ago I FINALLY finished Fractured!
This book is over 400 pages of fast-paced, heart-thumping genius, which I could have very easily devoured in one sitting.
Yet again, Teri manages to pull on the heart strings of her readers and drag them through the emotional rollercoaster of the Kyla/Ben, Kyla/Nico, Kyla/Everybody story which Fractured follows!
I must admit, I missed Ben a lot.
I loved Ben in Slated, and whilst he is younger than me (sigh) I can't help but base some of the traits I look for in a future partner because of Ben. I have an image of this guy as Ben.

But that miiiight be because I REALLY REALLY fancy Alex Pettyfer.
So without Ben in Fracture, I miss him lots! (Don't worry girlies, he is still there, just not as prominant).
However you have the GORGEOUS (untrustworthy now-hated) Nico to fancy, as he is described as being mouth-watering, unimaginably hot.
Why is it that men are never as hot in real life as they are in books? Any theories? Anyone?
MOVING ON!
The story in Fractured is pretty complicated and there is actually a fantastic twist. At first I can't decide what side to be on, and I just sort of follow whatever Kyla chooses, kind of like a new-Slated, as I'm unable to make decisions by myself. However as Kyla uncovers secrets that were hidden away and slated along with her memory, I feel as though I am also finding myself, at least as far as the novel goes.
There were points I wanted to cry as I realised what was going on, especially when parents were brought into the scenario.
Admittedly, I did cry.
It was heartbreaking, and I hate Teri Terry for it, however I love her for resolving feelings that I felt so confused about!
Teri's writing is smooth, unpredictable and leaves the reader needing more.
Good luck topping that! I can not WAIT for the final installment of this thrilling series.
Bring on 2014!

Title: Garvitational Pull (Vis Vires Trilogy #2)
Author: Marissa Carmel
Release Day: April 4th, 2013
Genre: New Adult Paranormal Romance
Cover Reveal Host: Lady Amber's Tours

Synopsis:

Touch me, and bring me to life...
How do you move on when you don’t even know where you were going in the first place?

The Spirit Stalker is dead and I have finally started to erect my life. But I quickly discover, that just because the structure is built doesn’t mean the foundation is sturdy. As much as I try to manage my abilities, I can’t completely control them. The physical impossibility of the relationship I have with Justice has reached a boiling point; our fundamental problem is my inability to control myself from absorbing his power, and his fears of touching me because of it.

As if that wasn’t deal-breaker enough, a new threat looms on my horizon - Darklings.
They are grim reapers of the immortal world who surface every five-hundred-years to feed off the souls of magical beings who are weak, aimless, lost; those who have given up and want to move on.

They also hunt power. Which means, they’re hunting me.

Abandoned by the one person I need the most, I find myself in Melenia’s realm.  There, I’m courted by Siberian, a dangerous pixie who covets me, hunted by Death personified; all the while hiding my powers and my ancient bloodline. The pixie prince is alluring, and I feel so broken and vulnerable. I know giving in to him means giving myself over to him. But right now, I don’t care. All I want is to feel anything other than the loss and rejection Justice left me with.
Anything other than pain.

So what do I do when I’m scared to be touched, even though I know it’s the only way to bring my soul back to life?

Excerpt- Justice’s POV:
We land right outside the gates of Keelin Castle. Extinguishing ourselves, we descend on the palace.
Walking authoritatively, we make our way down the nave-like hallway of the castle to the huge, golden double doors at the end. The throne room.
“Are you sure that’s where she’ll be?” Derrin asks snidely. “She might be waiting in her chambers for you.”
“Well if she is, she’ll be waiting a while.”
“It could be a good way to get some of your frustrations out,” he says boorishly.
“There’s more than one way to release frustration,” I threaten him.
“Bring it, bitch,” he grabs his crotch, not intimidated at all.
Asshole.
I push open the throne room doors, and as expected, we see the pixie queen perched on her throne waiting for us.
Emery surveys us as we approach. Both Derrin and I give a small nod in due respect as we reach her, but don’t be deceived, we are the supreme strata.
“Your little human has caused quite a stir,” she says evenly, but I can see the danger flashing in her eyes.
“She was the one who was attacked,” I quickly defend Liv.
“Was she? Or did she bring it on herself?”
My look becomes more intense. “What are you talking about?”
“My brother has taken quite a liking to her you know,” Emery says randomly.
Yes, I’ve noticed.
“If your brother knows what’s best for him, he will disappear from her life,” I say through clenched teeth.
Or I’ll remove him myself.
Emery’s eyes become razor sharp at my comment - she’s realized something. She slips off her throne and stalks down the three slate stairs to the floor where Derrin and I are standing. Like Liv, she is tiny, with long hair blacker than night and almond eyes just like Melenia’s.
“What is so special about this human?” she looks up at me, searing the question straight into my soul.
“Nothing,” I snap, but Emery knows me. She sees right through my lies.
“Then it will be nothing if I send the royal guard to take care of her, and rid my land of such contaminants.”
“Do it, and I will burn this entire realm to the ground,” I growl.
Her eyes grow a little wider, but she doesn’t back down from my glare.
“You love her.”
“No.”
“You deny it?”
“Yes.”
No.
“You loved me once,” she says vulnerably.
“What we had was never love,” I bite, “just sex.”
Ouch. That was harsh, even for me.
Emery’s eyebrows crease, and I know I have hurt her deeply.
It’s not a lie, I never loved her. We did have an intense physical relationship that included some emotion, but it’s incomparable to what I have with Liv.
She backs away from me, shifting her eyes between me and Derrin.
Derrin clears his throat. “Not to interrupt this lover’s quarrel,” that I highly enjoy watching, he tells me telepathically, “but what exactly did you mean when you said she brought it on herself?”
Emery’s full attention falls upon Derrin.
“Siberian didn’t give me all the details, but apparently she used her powers on him, and what she did, he described only as provocative.”
I clench my jaw. Provocative?
Images of Liv and Siberian reel through my head. What did she do to him? What did he do to her?
The thought makes me furious.
I’ve damaged us so badly; she turned to a threat more dangerous than the Darklings. And the only thing I can do about it is blame myself.
“So, is she in trouble?” Derrin goes on. “Is there anything we need to be aware of?” he hints. “Besides you sending the royal guard and Siberian?”
Emery contemplates Derrin’s questions for a short second. “Besides Darklings, what else should there be?” She looks over at me as I stand there still-stocked, trying not to give away the anger boiling over in my chest at the thought of Liv and Siberian.
“Who is this girl, exactly?” she pries deeper now, and I know we are heading into hazardous territory.
“She’s no one you have to be concerned about,” I dodge the question. “We just need to know if you’ve caught wind of any unusual uprisings?”
She is simultaneously lost and absolutely intrigued as she stares at me decisively. “No, nothing.”
I nod, and release an almost nonexistent sigh of relief.
“Do I have your word she won’t be harmed while she’s in Devonshire?” I phrase it as a question, but she understands my query is so much more than that. It’s a threat.
She nods her displeasure with a small, irritated frown.
We’ve collected the information we came for, and I’ve had enough of Emery’s probing stares. Surrendering to the ever-present pull drawing me back to Liv, and preparing for the shit-storm I’m sure awaits me once I see her, I turn to leave.
“What should I tell my brother?” Emery calls, taunting me. “He wants her.”
I turn back and glare at her. “Tell him he couldn’t handle her, even if he got her.” Then I slam the throne room door behind me, the sound echoing throughout the castle.
That pixie prick is dead.

The Runaway's Secret: Cover Reveal!

Running from the past…
Running from myself….
To protect those you love, some secrets should never come to light.
My life changed the night I became the same monster I had been forced to serve all my human years. As a fanged freak, I took to running away from my troubles rather than facing them head-on.
I should have kept running...
My world turned upside down once more when I met Solomon. He promised that I would be safe locked up in a fancy academy filled with supernatural creatures just like me. He promised that I had nothing to fear.
If only that had been true.
How long before the nightmares catch up to me? I’d hated myself for the monster that I’d become and the life I had been forced to leave behind. Sometimes I wished that she would find and kill me, ending this nightmarish existence, but that would mean leaving everyone I had come to know and love as well.
Could I possibly do that?
...time is running out, I must make a choice.
...until then, I must keep running.
...must become the monster even I have come to fear.

The Runaway's Secret by Leah Dewet.
Out Soon.

Three things run through my mind at this very moment…
ONE, my life as I once knew it will never be the same.
TWO, the person I’m in love with might not even exist.
THREE, the deception that has unfolded before me has the power of life and death.
Sixteen year old, Breanna Davis, has heard the saying; life isn’t always what it seems…well, that saying rings true now more than ever. As horrifying visions appear before her, revealing tragedies that will forever change the fate of those she loves, she realizes that she may be the only person who can stop them from becoming reality.
Amongst the chaos of this new discovery, Bre is faced with a stranger, Eve, who moves in on Bre’s friends and begins to follow her every move. As Eve’s true motives begin to surface, Bre must fight against, not only the visions, but the dangers Eve holds close.
There is another secret kept-
Collin, a boy held captive in Bre’s dreams, the boy she is secretly falling in love with but isn’t sure he even exists. As she tries to make it work with Austin, an old friend who could possibly be more, Bre battles against her feelings for Collin.
Bre is faced with an almost impossible decision, to choose her life or follow her destiny.
If she doesn’t intercede, people will certainly die.
If she does, her own life could be at stake.
In the end, if she fails, she’ll lose everything.

Jaime grew up in a small town in Northern California. Having a passion for dance and music, never would she have thought herself to become an author.

In late 2008, a story was born and a writer was developed. Jaime found the pieces of her novel beginning to take form and soon she had a full novel in her hands. Awaken is Jaime's first published novel. With many features still in the works, this debut novel is just a taste of the action-packed romantic thrillers to come from this aspiring new author.

Jaime is a committed wife and mother of 3, who loves life and doesn’t take anything for granted.
SNEAK PEEK!
Walking into the food court, I glanced over at something that caught my eye and abruptly stopped.
“Bre, are you alright? What’s wrong? What are you staring at?” Stephanie paused next to me and looked around the crowded mall. Rebecca and Katie had stopped just ahead of us and turned so they could see what was going on. They stood there staring at me with confusion, not saying anything, just waiting for me to respond. Glancing at Katie, I thought that for the first time in about a year, she actually seemed concerned that something might be wrong with me. I could see the change in her expression as she stared, not knowing what to say. But almost instantaneously, her concern seemed to vanish, and her face dropped into a heavy blankness. She pressed her lips together as she obviously realized who it was that she was concerned about and stopped herself before breaking the silence.
Snapping my eyes back to where the girl was standing, her expression was difficult to read; fury, spitefulness and interest all mixed into one. Her long, straight black hair shimmered from the iridescent lights above. Her skin was a perfect ivory color with a hint of pink to it. Her dark eyes glistened as she focused on my face, not noticing the people around her intruding on her space. She seemed oblivious to everything…but me.
“Bre? Bre?” Rebecca walked up to me and shook my shoulders but I didn’t look at her.
Eyes fixed on Eve, I tried to keep my voice as even as I could, failing miserably. “It’s her,” I whispered. “Why does she keep showing up in my life?  This cannot be coincidence. What does she want from me? Why doesn’t she just leave me alone?”
“Who are you talking about? Who keeps showing up in your life?”
Quickly taking my eyes off of her for a second, I glared into Becka’s perplexed face. I pointed my finger toward Eve, like I was pointing at the Ghost of Christmas Future.
All three girls turned around at the same time to look. When Rebecca saw who I was referring to, she flipped back around. “Do you mean Eve?”
The sheer sound of her name sent shock waves throughout my body and I began to shudder when I looked back at Eve.
“How do you know who she is?” I barely got the words out.
“I met her at the park right after you left. She seems really nice. She told me she had just moved here from…well, everywhere I guess. She really never told me where she came from, just that she moves around a lot.”
Completely taken off guard, I shook my head. “What else did she say?”
“We just talked casually, small talk like: how long have you lived here, I like what you are wearing that kind of thing. Of course, she would comment on my appearance because I looked fantastic that day. Oh, who am I kidding? I look fantastic every day!”
Why was she hovering around my friends? First my dad and now my best friend. Who was this creepy girl who seemed to be following me? I turned back around and stared at Eve.
“Becka, I know that you said she’s nice but there’s something strange about her. Something is just off, I can feel it,” I stated uneasily.
Just then, as I held Eve’s gaze, warmth swept across my body like I was standing under an air duct and they had turned the heat on. The stiffness of my muscles relaxed and all the uneasiness vanished. Impulsively, my eyes shut and I waited until the light had faded. When I opened them, there it was again, invisible to everyone but me.

Gates of Paradise: Melissa De La Cruz Review

Gates of Paradise (Blue Bloods, #7)

Schuyler Van Alen is running out of time. The Dark Prince of Hell is storming the Gates of Paradise, intent on winning the heavenly throne for good. This time he has his greatest angels by his side, Abbadon and Azrael—Jack and Mimi Force, as they are known in the Coven.

Or so he thinks. Even as Lucifer assigns Jack and Mimi the tasks of killing their true loves, the Force twins secretly vow to defeat the Dark Prince once and for all. But how far will Mimi and Jack go to conceal their real loyalties?

Meanwhile, former vampire Bliss Llewellyn has joined forces with Lawson, the greatest wolf of the underworld, to free his people from their imprisonment in Hell. As they struggle against impossible odds, an ancient message, woven into the very fabric of time, reveals just how much depends on the success of their mission.

Lucifer seeks the key to the Gate of Promise, and when Schuyler is taken captive and delivered straight to Hell, she must make an unthinkable choice—the same one the archangel Michael was forced to make during the Crisis in Rome. Will Schuyler find the strength to do what he could not?

The epic, heartbreaking Blue Bloods series comes to a close with this final novel about staggering courage, unbearable sacrifice, and the immortality of true love.

My Review
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh IT'S OVER.
That was my first reaction as I turned the final page and realised that several years of my life, several years I had sweated and cried and loved discovering new things all about Blue Bloods and Schuyler and Jack's love, and the gorgeous Mimi's wardrobe and bitchiness, and Bliss's incredible journey from dark to light had finally come to an end. I have to admit, I'm still in shock a bit.
The blue bloods series was 9 books, 9 AWESOME books:
Blue Bloods
Masquerade
Revelations
The Van Alen Legacy
Keys to the Repository
Misguided Angel
Bloody Valentine
Lost in Time
Gates of Paradise

These 9 books, written by one of my FAVOURITE authors of ALL time rival my true, deep-rooted love for the series Harry Potter, Starcrossed, Covenant and Lux.
Melissa De La Cruz is an absolute genius.
I first discovered the Blue Bloods Series when I started getting into my "vampire" phase: i'm definitely over that phase now, however I will never ever be over my love for this series!
The characters that Melissa created in the original book grew and developed so fluidly over the course of the series, that I actually felt as though I knew them all individually and personally, as though I shared intimate moments of their life and their loves and losses along the way.
The final book was heart-wrenching, stomach-churning and down-right insane! Bliss was one of my favourite characters from the original boko, and whilst I preferred her as a vampire, I must say that as a wolf/pack leader, Bliss rocks! She seems to really come into her own, and her amazing, quick-thinking deduction skills are a kick-ass addition to the book.
The storyline of The Gates of Paradise was really complex, in my opinion. Cruz has to be such a genius to be able to work all of the details in and resolve it in the perfect way to tell the story amazingly, whilst leaving you hanging and wanting MORE.
One of my LEAST favourite things about this book was definitely that Schuyler and Jack, and Mimi and Kingsley were apart. Their love from the previous books was so strong and so obvious and unbelievable that I couldn't handle that they weren't together. I needed them to be a couple, and whilst I knew what Jack and Mimi had done in the previous book (to do with Lucifer and the underworld and breaking their bond) was completely the right thing to do, I did NOT like that I couldn't enjoy some Schuyler and Jack lovey-dovey-against-the-world-fighting-Mimi's-evil-plans stuff that had been in pretty much all of the other books.
Bah.
Buuuut it was still AWESOME.
AND OLIVER GOT A GIRL. HOW COOL IS THAT! A GIRL THAT'S NOT SCHUYLER.
That's another twist that I LOVEEEED. I hated that Schuyler had been so alone for many of the books, especially after the deaths of Cordelia and Lawrence, but then suddenly, BAM! Family!
Awesome right? I won't tell you WHAT family members, as I fear I have already said too much, but yeaaaah! It's so cool. I love Schuyler. I actually want to be her and if I could, I would be. Actually I'd probably prefer to be Mimi minus some of the bitchiness.
The ending made me cry. Not just because it was the end but the decision that Schuyler made was so brave, and so full of love that I don't know if I would have been strong enough, if I was ever in her position, to make the same sacrificial decision.
I haven't cried at a book since Harry Potter and the death of Dobby and Fred and Lupin and Tonks, but this book had me bawling like a baby!
I feel like a part of me is missing, however I know that I will always have the books to re-read, and a love to fall head-first into, time and time again.
To everyone I say, read this series, for it changed my life, and I am sure it will change yours.
Happy Reading!

The Prey by Andrew Fukuda Review

The Prey (The Hunt, #2)

For Gene and the remaining humans—or hepers—death is just a heartbeat away. On the run and hunted by society, they must find a way to survive in The Vast... and avoid the hungry predators tracking them in the dark. But they’re not the only things following Gene. He’s haunted by the girl he left behind and his burgeoning feelings for Sissy, the human girl at his side.

When they discover a refuge of exiled humans living high in the mountains, Gene and his friends think they’re finally safe. Led by a group of intensely secretive elders, the civilisation begins to raise more questions than answers. A strict code of behaviour is the rule, harsh punishments are meted out, young men are nowhere to be found—and Gene begins to wonder if the world they’ve entered is just as evil as the one they left behind. As life at the refuge grows more perilous, he and Sissy only grow closer. In an increasingly violent world, all they have is each other... if they can only stay alive.

My Review
First off, can I say sorry for not posting in the past week. I've been busy with music school and coursework and exams and stuff but i'll make it up to you, I PROMISE. I've got lots of things to post! I've got this review, and then I'm ALMOST finished the 7th book, Gates of Paradise, in the Blue Blood Series by Melissa De La Cruz (can I just say ohmygod!).

RIGHT. BACK TO THIS REVIEW.
This book is the second book in The Hunt series, and after the amazing-ness of the first book, I had NO IDEA how Fukuda would manage to top one of the BEST books I have ever read in my entire life. Normally, I tend not to like books unless they have romance, or a paranormal aspect, or normally both, however this book did lack romance. There were hints of romance, similarly to the first book, The Hunt, however the central story line didn't revolve around Gene finding love or falling in love. Whilst at first I was hesitant to read the book if love wasn't a central part of the story, I decided to give it a go. The synopsis was enticing enough, and once I started reading, I couldn't stop!
Which lead me to the second book, which I eagerly bought on the morning it came out. It was the very first thing I did when I woke up.
This book was AMAZING. The characters that were created in the first book were developed further and given depths to them throughout the second book. I personally fancy the pants of Gene. He seems like a manly, smart, clever, fit, gorgeous man (and he's human which helps a bunch!). He has nothing on Aiden from the Covenant series, or Daemon from the Lux series (which I will finish posting reviews of in the next month or so!), but he's a close third!
The way Gene takes charge in the book and successfully leads the group of Hepers to safety (or what you THINK is safety) is admirable. I also have to admit I love the lead girl in this book as well, Sissy! She's independent and feisty, and I picture as a tall, tanned, long-flowing hair warrior style kick-ass gal, which I imagine I am on several occassions when I feel pathetic and lonely! I used to DREAM about being Buffy The Vampire Slayer, she was my child-hood hero, and I think Sissy is from a similar line of tough women.
I have to say that the twist in this book is sort of expected, and seems a bit obvious to me, however this did not mean that I was bored or lost interest in the book, completely the opposite! I was desperate to know whether or not my suspicions were correct, and therefore I read this book in ONE SITTING.
The ending is such a cliffhanger it breaks my heart. I don't want to WAIT for the next book. I want it nowwww! So please Andrew Fukuda, WRITE THE BOOK AND GIVE IT TO ME!
So my final words to you are:
Read the Hunt. Then read the Prey. Then fangirl with me until the next book comes out!
Love, me.
Happy Reading!

Author Bio:
One day while slaving away at her monotonous day job, Jennifer Martinez found her true calling. Like a firefly in the night, the pages called to her. Once she caught the bug there was no stopping it. Her fingers flew furiously across the keyboard winding tales of love, mystery and anger. She snapped out of her reverie to find herself still behind the desk but at least she knew who she was… Author Jennifer Martinez.
I like to think of myself as a beautiful conundrum. When I am not writing, I can be found surrounded by my amazing family and 4 dogs or volunteering at a local animal rescue. I love who I am and don’t mind at all when I get strange looks from people. I am a tattoo covered, child and animal lover who looks forward to destroying peoples preconceived notions of what “someone like me” would be interested in. You only live life once… you may as well make it interesting.
I love to get lost in a good book and hope that everyone will get lost in mine.
